Toy Story 5 brings Pixar’s long running toys back into a world shaped by modern tech, as Woody, Buzz, Jessie and the gang face disruption from Lilypad, a tablet designed to reshape Bonnie’s social world. Jessie becomes the emotional anchor of the story, with her journey tying together ideas of identity, purpose and what it means to be forgotten in a changing environment. The animation is excellent throughout, and the voice cast, particularly Tim Allen as Buzz, delivers consistent energy that keeps the film engaging.
Despite its strengths, the film often feels like it is circling familiar ground. The central conflict between imagination and technology is clear but not especially fresh, and at times the story leans too heavily on nostalgia rather than pushing forward. The pacing also feels stretched, with more mileage than the material needs. Still, it remains a well made, emotionally steady entry in the franchise, even if it struggles to justify its own existence in 2026.
