The End of Oak Street takes an interesting idea and turns it into an entertaining science fiction survival film. When a mysterious cosmic event transports an ordinary suburban neighbourhood to a prehistoric landscape, a family must fight to survive among dangerous dinosaurs. Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor deliver strong performances, while the CGI creatures look impressive. At around 90 minutes, the film also keeps things moving without overstaying its welcome.
However, the complete lack of humour makes the film feel unnecessarily serious, while some frustrating character decisions had me questioning their common sense. Despite its promising premise and impressive effects, it never quite feels special. We have seen plenty of dinosaur films over the years, and The End of Oak Street struggles to deliver the sense of wonder needed to stand out. It is an enjoyable watch, but one that leaves little lasting impression.
