REVIEW: Ali G: Who Iz I? (2026 Film) - Starring Sacha Baron Cohen

Sacha Baron Cohen returns as his famous comedy creation in Ali G: Who Iz I?, a 2026 mockumentary that sees the former Staines celebrity attempt to revive his career after discovering his girlfriend Julie is pregnant. An outdated offer from HBO sends him to America, where he tries to rebuild his following through TikTok and a series of increasingly ridiculous online ventures. There are occasional glimpses of the uncomfortable, cringe-inducing comedy that originally made Ali G so popular, particularly during the encounters with unsuspecting real people. The film is also well produced, but these moments are few and far between.

Unfortunately, Ali G now feels like a character who has long since passed his sell-by date. What was once cutting-edge satire has become a tired routine, made even more awkward by the fact that Sacha Baron Cohen is now a multi-millionaire Hollywood celebrity and political activist. The plot is weak, the jokes rarely land and the attempts to tackle modern culture wars offer very little genuine humour. Ali G was once entertaining because he made fun of people who took themselves too seriously. Now, he feels like a 55-year-old man desperately trying to squeeze a few more pennies out of a character who has run out of ideas.
