Mayday is a polished and entertaining action comedy that benefits enormously from the chemistry between Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh. Reynolds plays the familiar wisecracking action hero, while Branagh steals the show as the eccentric and likeable former KGB officer Nikolai Ustinov. Their constant bickering provides the film's biggest laughs, while the action delivers several genuinely enjoyable sequences.
Unfortunately, Mayday is also rather predictable, with a formulaic script and comedy that does not always land. Some of the jokes feel dated, while the roughly 105-minute runtime could have been trimmed by around 15 minutes. It is a good straight-to-streaming film that delivers an enjoyable evening's entertainment, but it lacks the originality and staying power to make it particularly memorable.
