REVIEW: Qliphah in Providence's Shadow (2026 Video Game) on PlayStation 5

Qliphah in Providence's Shadow stands out with its clever timeline-based combat, stylish cel-shaded visuals and unusual mix of visual novel storytelling and RPG battles. Predicting attacks, setting up counters and chaining skills can make fights feel wonderfully tactical, while Rena and Souma provide an engaging central duo.

Sadly, the formula starts to wear thin. Limited enemy variety makes combat repetitive, multi-enemy fights can be frustrating, and progression offers little reason to experiment. The investigation elements can also become overloaded with information, while some mysteries feel too obvious. An original and interesting RPG, but one that does not quite fulfil its potential.

Echoes of Aincrad gives players the chance to create their own hero and experience the world of Sword Art Online from a new perspective. The character creation, weapon variety, upgrade systems and build customisation are some of the game's strongest features, while the visuals and soundtrack help create an impressive atmosphere.

However, the game often feels like a missed opportunity. The world can feel empty, exploration lacks meaningful rewards, combat is basic, and NPCs fail to make much of an impact. While fans of a more focused quest based JRPG may find plenty to enjoy, those expecting a truly expansive open world adventure may be disappointed. At £55, it feels like a game that needed more depth and ambition.

Romancing SaGa Minstrel Song Remastered International is a challenging and deliberately old school RPG that focuses on freedom and experimentation over guidance. The free scenario system lets you pick from eight protagonists and explore the world without being pushed along a fixed path, which creates a strong sense of discovery but also frequent confusion.

The combat system is one of its strongest elements, built around Glimmer and Combo mechanics that reward learning and tactical thinking in battle. At the same time, the game is defined by its steep difficulty, grinding, and lack of clear direction, which can be frustrating for some players. Overall, it is a faithful remaster of a cult classic that offers depth and personality, but demands patience and tolerance for its harsh design.
